Thunderbirds and sasquatches and sea bears, oh my!

The 2010 Winter Olympic mascots have been unvieled. They were chosen among 1,600 submitted designs to represent Vancouver, B.C.

Here they are (drumroll, please):

Yes, it's Sumi the thunderbird, Quatchi the sasquatch and Miga the sea bear.

They were designed by Meomi Design of L.A., which also has a Vancouver branch.

It seems these elegant character have been critically acclaimed by local officials and design gurus alike.

And by elegant I mean silly.

And by critically acclaimed, I mean criticized.

The Olympic mascots always look bizarre. Vancouver's certainly no exception! Maybe I can tell them in person how silly they look. I want to go to the 2010 Games!
